About This Site: "New since your last visit"?

Would it be a good idea to have a way of seeing what's been submitted and commented on since your last visit to the site?

I think this'll get very useful as the amount of material on here grows.

Or just a list of the most recently updated quotes, like Wikipedia's "Recent Changes".

Yes, I think it would. That'd be particularly useful for the target "make me smile for two minutes when I'm on the train to work" audience too - if all the have to do is load the site and click a single link to see everything that's happened since yesterday's commute I think they'd like that. Either ought to be fine, I'd have thought.

I'm wondering if it might be worth having some sort of function where users can submit a witty answer they gave to a stupid question (or received, if they're big enough to admit they asked the question) as well as the question itself? Having it set out as "Why do A do B to C?" (Answer: Because A does B to C) doesn't look too great IMO. I suppose changing anything where this applies to a "Q. and A." format might work, or maybe an option to include the answer is the best way ahead?

I'd say just post answers and stuff as a comment on the submission. You can comment on stuff before it's been moderated via the "My Contributions" link.

The tricky thing with adding more stuff to the submission process is, how do we make it work on phones? We can put extra text boxes, drop downs etc on the web submission box but for SMSes we can't ask for any more than just one lump of text.

Yes, I thought it'd be a problem for phones. I imagine that once there's a few people submitting regularly they'll work out how they want to do that sort of thing for themselves anyway - jut because I don't like the XXX (YYY) format doesn't mean other people won't, after all (though it does mean they don't have good taste like I do).

Want me to change the background colours on the submission icons, or can you do that at your end?

I reckon I can manage. I'll do it tomorrow though, going to have a bit of a break for now!

OK. Definitely looks better now!
